Tugela Ridley has been a professional photographer since 2005 working for the news wire Agence France Presse (AFP) as their stringer in Uganda. She has also photographed for IRIN Photo and Reuters and her pictures have appeared in international publications including The Christian Science Monitor, The Economist and The Sunday Times. She has undertaken assignments for non-governmental organisations including WFP, UNOCHA and ACDI-VOCA.
From 2005 to the end of 2006 Tugela was based in Uganda documenting daily life and covering elections, current affairs, conflict, humanitarian crises and development there and in neighbouring Sudan and DR Congo.
She has travelled widely in Central and East Africa and from the beginning of 2007 will be based in Ghana, West Africa.
